MLK QUOTES, WHAT'S UP ?

QUOTATION MLK, One of my favorite MLK "guillemets''EST this: Everyone can be great ... because anybody can serve. You do not have a college degree to serve. Q You 'have to make subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.

I think this project (Turning Point) is an excellent example of this quote in action. What started as an idea has already begun in a partnership that will last and really make an impact at the Turning Point Academy.
Stephen Norton, 24, was born 18 years after King's death. He grew up in Peoria, Illinois, and spent a year in Charlotte working for Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps as a volunteer. He and his girlfriend, Maria Bumgardner AmeriCorps volunteers, designed in an outdoor classroom that the group will begin to address today.

Service is part of my life since I was young. The teachings of Martin Luther King really affect me. Just the idea to see your neighbors and are ready to sacrifice things in your life to help others - and stand up for people when you see the imbalance - inspired me to help give people a voice.

As an immigration lawyer Charlotte, Jordan Forsythe, 38, has faced a lot of what the king in an effort to win equal rights and voice for poor communities. He grew up in New Orleans, where he was given the big parade to celebrate the legacy of King. A member of Temple Israel, Forsythe is on the committee for the project today.

The service is very important to me. Currently, immigration law, I am reminded of Dr. King's daily problems. Most of my customers have no right to vote. This is very limiting.

I spent most of my time as a lawyer in deportation defense. This can be extremely useful, extremely disappointing - it's always very moving, regardless of the outcome. The work raises my respect and admiration for what Dr. King is able to reach, even with all the challenges it faces. I am the law I must follow the rules of court are often hurt my client. It hurts like the man when he is not a positive resolution. But I'm lucky. I'm not afraid to face that Dr. King faced. It was a remarkable person to fight it.

No doubt, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud of the scene that occurred today at the Turning Point Academy, CMS alternative school for students with severe discipline problems.

On the 25th anniversary of the federal holiday honoring King, more than 150 volunteers from various religions, ages and colors will come together to build a bed gardens, trellises and outdoor waste composting for the classroom so that students can find the appreciation of nature - and eventually find their way them back into the traditional classroom.

The volunteers also will paint the gymnasium bleachers. They have other plans for schools - including painting the corridor walls, renovation of the teacher's lounge - which should be postponed until after the snow last week of this vacation turned into a day of student makeup.
